New gym BK Kino opens in August in Lauttasaari
Dear climbers,
We have great news! We are proud to announce that the Boulderkeskus family will grow in August. We have a great pleasure and honor to present: BK Kino – a modern training sanctuary for a full-hearted climbing practice in Lauttasaari!
The story behind the gym
With the opening of BK Pasila in 2008, Boulderkeskus brought bouldering to the attention of the entire nation and has been taking Finnish climbing forward ever since. The climbing training that began twelve years ago in the caches of Pasila’s red-brick railway yards in the small training cave has ever since evolved from the exercise of raw finger power into a holistic Olympic sport that requires seamless cooperation between body and mind. The gyms in Pasila, Konala, Herttoniemi and Espoo have been part of a logical development curve of climbing and climbing culture. Boulderkeskus has been ahead of its time and has re-focused its gaze again and again towards the future and the next level.
Many climbing gyms offer a lot, but not everything. In the new training gym of Boulderkeskus old meets new and takes the practice of climbing one level further. BK Kino is a real temple for climbing training!
The newcomer gets its name from the location’s colorful history as a movie theater. Kultainen Lyhty (Golden Lantern) cinema, which originated in the 1940s, creates a great foundation for BK Kino – instead of moving pictures, there is now a more concrete kind of movement on the walls of the theater.
Great setting in a great location
This gem, located on “the Happy Island”, Lauttasaari, will offer our climbing community a variety of the favorites mentioned in the survey published by Boulderkeskus in April (Oma halli – paras halli survey).
The gym offers:
A couple of hundred squares of spray walls, or a training wall that goes from 15 degrees to 45 degrees
Train-to-climb wall, which is a vertical wall specially designed for coordination training
MoonBoard – a super popular training wall with LEDs
fingerboards and ancillary training equipment
space for free weight training and exercise
The gym in the heart of Lauttasaari is extremely accessible. The nearest metro station is just a three-minute walk away and a bike path goes directly in front of the gym.
Like all BKs, BK Kino serves its members 24/7. Awesome, right? In the Boulderkeskus family, however, it is quite a unique member.
Why solely a training gym?
We have received a lot of wishes from our customers for a purely training-focused space. So, sleeves were rolled: we set out to find a space where we could realize these shared dreams of a gym where one can focus on training without the temptation brought by our routesetter’s creations.
At BK Kino, you can crank hard and challenge yourself on walls that develop technique as well as power. With the spray wall and technique walls, practicing specific movements is easy and controlled.
There are no rental shoes at the gym and the facilities do not support climbing for children or beginners. For this purpose, we therefore recommend our other gyms in Pasila, Konala, Herttoniemi and Suomenoja.

If you want to add BK Kino in your world of climbing training, become a member! The current annual members, aka BK Collective members, can climb at Kino with their current membership. If you are not yet a member of BK Collective, now is a great time to join! The gym also has its own annual membership. The price for BK Kino’s annual membership is 420€ or 35€ / month – a pretty good deal! Of course, you can also enter the gym with one-time tickets and premium memberships.
In August we open the doors! The walls are already being built at a rapid pace and we will keep you informed of the progress and the opening day as soon as the exact dates are on the calendar. We can hardly wait to be able to share the joy of the new gym with you!
