BK Espoo – creating a new gym!
The BK territory is spreading wider and wider: Konala, Herttoniemi and Pasila are soon joined by a fourth gym BK Espoo! It’ll also be the largest of the BK climbing centers. The magnificent mega gym will be a great addition to the BK family. This blog post will brief you in on the whole project. The answers are provided by the head of the project, Henna Mäkinen.
When will BK Espoo be opening?
We are having a contest: which one will make it first, BK Espoo or Länsimetro? Although looking back at the Länsimetro construction history, we shouldn’t have a worry in the world. The grand opening of BK Espoo is expected to be on the October 28th. We promise, it’ll be a great event! We will let you know more closer to the date.
Where will the new gym be located?
The new gym is situated in Finnoo, close to Iso Omena shopping center. The address is Niittyrinne 2 B. One can already check it out with Google maps street view here.
The connections to the gym are excellent: when the metro opens the closest stop will first be Matinkylä, and after the extension of the line, Finnoo. There’s a bus stop right next door for the bus lines 154, 156, 158, 543 and of course all the buses going by Länsiväylä and Kuitinmäentie will take you really close.
Is there demand for a new gym and how come you chose Espoo?
Also Espoo’s residents have a right to Finland’s best bouldering. Go West!
The general feedback has been clear: Espoo needs some nice BK action. As always, we try our best to answer our customers’ needs and spread the joy of climbing further.
This large, modifiable and nicely located former storage building and logistics center – where BK Espoo will be created – is exceptionally suitable to be the new home for BK’s climbers in the heart of Espoo.
What will BK Espoo contain?
BK Espoo will include many services alongside climbing. A shop, a café as well as sauna premises will be built in the center. We’ll also offer courses, guided climbing, events, competitions and other fun stuff.
The whole building is not only for BK but the current plan includes also different kinds of sports facilities to be opened by other companies. There are various smaller B-to-B-companies as well.
What will the gym be like?
The gym itself is big. The whole inner area is approximately 1 800 m². In the beginning there will be about 500 m² of wall to be climbed! The walls will be diverse. In addition to overhang, vertical and slab there will be a special wall for kids and for competitions and as well as Finland’s coolest middle block! The training facilities will include a Moonboard for hardcore workouts and obviously also hangboards and all what’s needed for a full on training session.
The texture of the walls will be rough. The walls are delivered and designed by a Czech manufacturer called Walltech. The mats are made together with Core and the holds will be gathered from around the world – just like before.
There will be no top outs at the Espoo gym. The profiles are going to be simple but adjustable with boxes and volumes, so the route setters can really show off their skills and creative ideas! The idea is that BK Espoo is constantly living, dynamic entity.
How will the construction of the gym go?
After the plans for construction and walls are done, the wall structures and panels will be manufactured. The panels are cut, painted and coated in Czech and then delivered to Finland. After that a Czech-Finnish team will build Finland’s best bouldering wall. The remaining part of the gym will grow into administrative and other premises in the meanwhile. The mats will be put in place when the walls are ready. And then we’re ready to start creating fantastic problems!
Have you already chosen the staff for BK Espoo?
BK’s team will grow due to the new gym. Part of the staff has already been recruited but some posts are still unfulfilled. We will inform about the open positions in August through our social media channels.
What kind of expectations does BK have regarding the new gym?
We hope to see new faces in the climbing gym, all ages and of course especially people from Espoo! We also want to provide our current customers with more excellent climbing.
Will the new gym affect the customers, prices or something else?
BK Espoo will only have positive outcomes. It is a huge improvement for all climbers but especially for BK Collective whose members will have 24/7 access to four gyms instead of three! The new gym is also going to be a kind of a thank you for the BK Collective for their continuous support.
